ABSTRACT:
The purpose of this project was to develop a MASH TL-3 compliant guardrail for placement on 2H:1V slopes. Such a guardrail system will have application on roadways where the terrain topology limits the available flat terrain needed for typical guardrail performance. Hence, this system was developed to address such limitation. This system has a W-beam rail element mounted at 31 inches high on 8-ft long posts. The posts are placed at 6-ft-3-inch standard spacing. The W-beam rail splices are located between posts. Two crash tests were conducted, MASH Test 3-11 and MASH Test 3-10, and both passed MASH test evaluation criteria.
